Buddhadharma in the Smoky Mountains

Milarepa Retreat Center is located at the eastern gate of the Smoky Mountain National Park in Happy Valley, Tennessee. Founded by Lama Norlha Rinpoche in 2007, it is affiliated with Palpung under Guru Vajradhāra Chamgön Kenting Tai Situpa, and nurtures the transmission of the Karma Kagyu, Shangpa Kagyu, and Nyingma lineages. Because of the natural power of its surroundings, Milarepa Retreat Center is an ideal location for Dharma practice and study, enriched by a stupa, resident teachers, and a thriving community of practitioners.

Stupa

Stupa-harmika

The current focus of the MOCD community is completing the construction of an Enlightenment Stupa. A stupa is a representation of the mind of a Buddha, and serves as a focal point for pilgrimage and support for contemplative practice. It also has a profound effect on the environment, balancing and enriching the elements of a region. Please join us in this project by offering your time, connections, resources, and aspirations.
